In a statement, the Mounties say they found an unidentified 25-year-old man with severe injuries “consistent with being struck by a train or falling off a train”.

It is believed the man fell off a train car, only to be struck by other train cars.

Staff Sergeant Kurt Grabinsky said the man was conscious at the time of his discovery, and was able to tell police that, yes, he had been “riding the train” at the time.

The man was rushed to hospital for treatment. It was determined he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

His current condition is unclear.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is aware of the incident, and is providing consular support.

For what it’s worth, the tracks have reopened, and hopefully won’t be the site of any more grisly injuries.
