Australian Beer Ad Wins Gold At Cannes Lions Festival

While Julia Gillard has been chumming it up with Hilz Clinton at the United Nations Rio+20 sustainable development summit in Brazil, Bill Clinton has been hanging out with Selena Gomez at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, where the former US president talked his favourite ads and world peace while silently wondering why the shit Selena Gomez was at an advertising industry event like the Cannes Lion Festival.

While industry types have labelled the past year in Australian advertising as ‘abysmal‘, one Aus ad managed to take home gold and it’s for beer! Classic Australia:

MJZ Films and Sydney agency Publicis Mojo’s spot for Hahn Super Dry ‘Super in, super out’ was one of two Australian winners alongside DDB and Soma Film’s spot for the Volkswagon Tiguan, which luckily, did not use any unauthorised Beach House rip-offs and won silver:

The Grand Prix went to Los Angeles’ Creative Artists Agency and Nexus Productions for Mexican food chain, Chipotle. Their spot ‘Back To The Start’ features a Willie Nelson cover of Coldplay’s The Scientist:

FILM LIONS GRAND PRIX

Below are a few more highlights from the festival, including a bear rug with direction, a brilliant retelling of The Three Little Pigs and the most convincing argument against cable television ever presented:

FILM CRAFT LIONS GRAND PRIX

BMF Sydney won the FILM CRAFT BRONZE LION for this one:

This old guy was also shortlisted in the same category:
