Arnold Schwarzenegger Urges Australia To Cut Emissions, Says It’s Smart Economics

Calling total bullshit on a common misconception that cutting emissions, going green and protecting the environment is an overly-costly affair, Arnold Schwarzenegger has urged Australia to cut emissions, and to quit playing the “economics” card when justifying anti-environmental moves. While promoting his new film, ‘Terminator: Genisys’ in Sydney, Arnie claimed all nations had to work together to lower emissions.

“I am on a mission, I’m on an environmental crusade to go and motivate everyone to go in that direction. The thing that you always hear when you do that is ‘this will hurt the economy. Going green and protecting the environment did not hurt the economy, it’s a bunch of nonsense.”

The former Governator claimed that prioritising the environment was the opposite of a costly task: introducing an emission trading scheme in California, while he was governor, boosted the State’s economic growth – rather than damaging it.

This week, Australia’s climate change policy was scrutinised and criticised by a United Nations panel, led by former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan. The panel claimed Australia was one of four major offenders (along with Canada, Japan and Russia) without adequate climate change policy, and described the nation as a “free-rider” in climate change diplomacy.

However, foreign Minister Julie Bishop denied the claims today, saying Australia’s “free-rider” status was “completely false“, citing our commitments met for the first period of the Kyoto Protocol.
