5 Police Officers Confirmed Dead In Dallas As Search For Suspects Continues

Sky News reports a suspect in today’s police shootings in Dallas has been killed, following an extended stand-off with law enforcement.

Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings confirmed the suspect was killed after police used explosives to “blast him out” of hiding, in what is believed to be an underground car park.

Earlier, The Dallas Police Department confirmed a fifth officer died in the aftermath of tonight’s shootings. The PD took to Twitter to make the announcement.

Eleven officers in total were shot during the demonstration against the police killings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile.
Ten of those were shot from high vantage points by multiple shooters described as “snipers”; the eleventh was shot following another altercation.

Elsewhere, the search for other suspects is underway after a man identified as a person of interest was released by police.

We’ll update this story as it develops.
