2 Sunbathers Killed After Plane Makes Emergency Landing On Portuguese Beach

Two sunbathers have been killed near Lisbon in Portugal after a light plane made an emergency landing on a beach.

The pair, a 56-year-old man and an eight-year-old girl, were on the beach along with hundreds of other people at Sao Joao de Caparica when the Cessna aircraft made its landing. It is reported that other sunbathers ran into the water to avoid the plane.

Officials are currently unaware of anyone else injured by the plane’s landing. The two occupants of the plane are reportedly uninjured and are being questioned by police. The National Maritime Authority confirmed the man and girl died on the beach.

Eyewitnesses recall seeing the plane visibly appear to be in trouble before flying flow over the ground, scattering beachgoers and causing panic at the scene.

Joao de Caparica beach is about 30 kilometres south of Lisbon, and attracts big crowds during the summer in August.
