Weezer Cover Radiohead’s ‘Paranoid Android’

Hot from the studio, Weezer have covered Radiohead‘s seminal prog-rock opus, ‘Paranoid Android’. Why they did it is anyone’s guess.

There’s really not much to say about this except that all of our teenage alt-rock dreams just came true. At once. Does Rivers Cuomo do a good Thom Yorke? Well for one, he seems to be singing ‘What’s thaar’ instead of ‘What’s there?’ in the bridge, but that’s probably just a culture thing. The band certainly manage to traverse the tricky sonic climes of the seven minute opus without missing a beat, which is certainly not what one expected from the guys who previously told wrote a song with Lil Wayne called ‘Can’t Stop Partying’. The gang over at Popdust made the very accurate observation that both these bands were equally loved in the ’90s, but for entirely different reasons:

“Radiohead appealed to the intellectual side of the disenfranchised teen with their dystopian album themes, complex song structures and forward-thinking musical arrangements, while Weezer got them by the heartstrings, performing supernaturally catchy, nakedly emotional anthems of teen angst, young love and, uh, easily unraveled overgarments.”

Which in a nutshell means it’s totally Disenfranchised Teen Saturday!

We’re keen to think what you hear about this. Would you like to see the Oxford quintet covering ‘Say It Ain’t So’ next? Surely this calls for some kind of petition.
