Wayne Coyne Explains Aracde Fire Beef

An online tiff between rock music’s Peter Pan and a bunch of limp wristed Canadians won’t illicit the same interest as gun-toting Gangsta Rappers or Pop Divas questioning each others sexuality. But a fight is a fight and though their band names suggest incendiary rage Flaming Lips and Arcade Fire are more likely to exchange passive aggressive blog posts than bullets. With that in mind check out the below Pedestrian interview which sees Wayne Coyne explain exactly why he called Arcade Fire “pompous pricks” earlier this year. Throw some water on it.

For those who don’t know here’s a little history. Earlier this year in an interview with Rolling Stone Coyne remarked of Arcade Fire:

“I’m a fan of them on one level, but on another level I get really tired of their pompousness … We’ve played some shows with them and they really treat people like shit. Whenever I’ve been around them, I’ve found that they not only treated their crew like shit, they treated the audience like shit. They treated everybody in their vicinity like shit.”

Aracde Fire frontman Win Butler retaliated with this:

“I can’t imagine a reason why we would have been pompous towards The Flaming Lips, a band we have always loved, on that particular night, all those years ago. Unless I was way more jet-lagged then I remember, I hope I was less of a ‘Prick’ then telling Rollingstone that a bunch of people I don’t know at all are really a bunch of assholes.”

Now we get to see Coyne defend his position in an interview with Pedestrian. Apparently, much like every hip-hop beef an inconsiderate crew was the root cause. Check out Coyne’s full explanation below…
