First up, a huge bloody congrats to The Rubens for taking out #1 in the Hottest 100 yesterday. They pipped KENDRICK LAMAR to the post, which is something they can hang their hat on from now until forever.
Taking a quick whiff around the internet, however, it would appear that many of you are surprised and/or shocked with who *you, the people* voted for.
A sample of reactions: omg it should have been Tame no Major Lazer no wait Courtney Barnett no thank fuck it wasn’t Courtney Barnett, etc. The logically conclusion of 300,000+ people with v. v. different musical tastes voting in one comp. DEMOCRACY!
But, so as to record this moment in the internet annuals of history, Triple J filmed The Rubens at the exact moment they realised their little track ‘Hoops‘ just beat an artist who’s picked up 11 Grammy nominations this year alone, and they look as surprised as anyone.
