Stream: MIA’s New Album

M.I.A.’s new record is streaming in full on her MySpace right now, with an official release of July 13.

Initial stand-out by a mile is surely Diplo-produced “It Takes A Muscle” (which will probably be one of the tracks of the year, and be remixed to death over summer). The track is a cover of Dutch group Spectral Display’s song from 1982:

The only other collaboration between Diplo and MIA on the album “Tell Me Why” is also a good vibe.

The album was recorded entirely at Maya’s house in L.A. except for those tracks which were recorded at a studio in Santa Monica. Diplo claimed in an interview that “her boyfriend really hates me” so he was not allowed to visit the house. Be that as it may, he still managed to produce the best tracks on the record. There are some less exciting moments such as the 1-minute head-scratcher of an opener “The Message”. Lyrics below so you can follow along as you listen:

head bone connected to the neck bone. neck bone connected to the arm bone. arm bone connected to the hand bone. hand bone connected to the internet connected to the google connected to the government.

head bone connected to the headphones. headphones connected to the iPhone. iPhone connected to the internet connected to the google connected to the government.

Neck bone not connected to arm bone, silly!

Look out for the 4 bonus songs on the Japan-only release- that will hit the internet shortly after- that a close source informs us “are better than almost anything on the album”.
