RZA To Make Directorial Debut

Good news Wu Tang/Kung Fu fans. According to Deadline, Universal Studios will finance and distribute The Man With The Iron Fists a RZA-penned martial arts epic that he is also set to direct.

Aside from bringing da motherfuckin’ ruckus to the film-making game, the Wu Tang Clan linchpin will also play the title role “a blacksmith who forges weapons for the inhabitants of a village in feudal China.” Which makes total sense because The Wu’s appreciation of Chinese and Shao Lin culture verges on the fanatical. It also comes as no surprise then, that The RZA turned to a fellow Asiaphile for advice. Quentin Tarantino doled out some directing tips on the set of Kill Bill and Eli Roth (who you might remember as the Jew Bear in Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds) wrote the latest draft of the script. According to Roth it “mixes kung fu with a spaghetti Western mindset and a hip hop influence”.

The film starts shooting in Hong Kong this September with an estimated budget of $20 million.
