Over Half Pedestrian’s Favourite Songs Are Unlikely To Make Triple J’s Hottest 100

Happy Hottest 100 Day! Today’s the day in which a nation (nay, a world) comes together at midday AEDST over and around the wireless to partake in a bout of short-term musical nostalgia reaching back with one free hand (the other firmly grips an iced beverage) over the musical archives of the past twelve months; plumbing the depths of playlists both recently added and highest rotation in the final countdown that is the world’s biggest music poll.

Late last year we compiled a list of Pedestrian’s Top 20 Songs of 2012, a list that for posterity’s sake we’ve cross-referenced with this year’s Warmest 100. In doing so we found that over half of our favourite songs from the last year are unlikely to make the final cut. I know, right? It’s so embarrassing. I don’t even… Whatever.
For the unacquainted, The Warmest 100 describes itself as “the web’s most accurate prediction of Australia’s popular music countdown – Triple J’s Hottest 100.” It works by aggregating the 35,081 votes made public by 3,602 voters and shared via social media to give a yet-to-be-determined-in-its-accuracy indication of how the official list will play out. Guess who they – and the punters – have tipped to take the number one spot? Hint: it isn’t Gotye.
Even though this year’s list encompassed approximately 2.7% of the total vote it’s still a novel idea and one that – as odds would have it – triple j probably won’t let happen again next year. You can check out the list in its entirety here.
Here’s how we were placed when comparing the two lists. Everybody wins:
20. Carly Rae Jepsen “Call Me Maybe”
19. Woollen Kits “Susannah
18. Catcall “The World Is Ours
17. Tame Impala “Be Above It
