Sorry Emo Kids, That My Chemical Romance Reunion Tour Tease Probs Isn’t Legit

The internet was abuzz with the sounds of a million former emo and scene kids on the weekend over a quickly spreading rumour that My Chemical Romance were maybe teasing a tour on their website. The story picked up a lot of steam after Alternative Press reported on people tweeting about it – with the only evidence being this screenshot from the MCR website.

Look, if that’s a tease for a reunion, then it’s a pretty unexciting one. Predictably, fans went mental.

My Chemical Romance broke up back in 2013, but there’s still a helluva lot of people carrying a candle for the Black Parade, or so it would seem.

Despite the fact Alternative Press called it “not a drill” it seems this one is decidedly a drill. Of course, it’s possible the band is indeed planning a reunion tour, but it doesn’t look like this post is indicative either way. As many fans are now pointing out, it looks like the post in question is a fanmade community post from back in 2016 which has weirdly been boosted into the site’s largely defunct news section for some reason.

The fact it seems to be authored by a user named ‘blurryface’ probably should be a clue-in to the fact its not entirely an official thing, but there you go.

Back in May, Gerard Way and the rest of MCR were spotted at former guitarist Frank Iero‘s gig, spurring talk of a reunion. He shot that down at the time, though:

We all got together recently and it was wonderful – we didn’t even talk about the band or playing shows again. I don’t know if anything will happen in the future, but what I do know is everyone has a really great life right now. I think [My Chemical Romance] will always be there for us if we want it, but it adds a layer of stress.

When something gets really big like that, it’s hard on you for many reasons, and it’s very stressful, so I wouldn’t want to disrupt anybody’s life right now. It’s a tricky thing, because you have four guys that really get along, and I think we all fully understand each other now and love each other.

Sorry, folks.
