Let’s Discuss Miley Cyrus’ Ramshackle Attempt At ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’

It’s an unspoken rule that you’re required to play Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit should your party get a touch too boonta. We’re not entirely sure how this happened, seeing as Kurt Cobain’s pained yelps are anything but celebratory.

But fuck, sometimes you just need to slip that timeless rager in your mix. 

Seasoned music industry pro Miley Cyrus is well and truly aware of this rule, as evidenced by footage of her impromptu take on the grunge cornerstone at her manager’s recent 40th birthday bash.

It’s loud. It’s ramshackle. It’s very messy, and to be honest: same.

To give you a lil’ more context behind that performance, a whole stack of industry luminaries were also on deck for industry luminary Adam Leber’s b-day. Sia was in attendance, as well as Juicy J, and Cyrus’ fiance Liam Hemsworth. We can only assume he was trying to start a very conservative circle pit just out of frame.

This isn’t the only time Cyrus has taken a swing at the big one, either. Smells Like Teen Spirit made appearances on her tour in 2011, well before the latter-day glitter-and-Wayne Coyne Cyrus made herself known.
