Last week, Kristin Wiig stopped by the most giggly news service on television (SNL’s Weekend Update) to address the backlash/hate directed at recent SNL musical guest, Lana Del Rey. In it, Wiig channels Del Rey through mousey stoicism, meandering speech patterns, and lots of hair touching, but ultimately defends the singer saying: “Based on the public’s response, I must have clubbed a baby seal while singing the Taliban national anthem.”
“The music stage on Saturday Night Live is hallowed ground,” Del Wiig later added. “And I failed to reach the high bar set by past guests like Bubba Sparxx, the Baha Men and Shaggy.”
Kudos to SNL for defending her.
If that doesn’t alleviate Del Rey’s validation issues, perhaps Born To Die’s entry at number one on the UK album charts will. Hard to make jokes about that, huh internet?
