Justin Timeberlake’s return to the music biz was sign, sealed, and delivered over the weekend when he made his first live appearance in five years at the pre-Super Bowl Direct TV Super Party Live in New Orleans. Timberlake dusted off the cobwebs with his 2002 “classics” including Cry Me A River and Like I Love You. He also debuted new jams Little Pusher Lover Girl and Bad Girl, with guest appearances from his Suit & Tie collaborator Jay-Z and Timbaland.
After a five year hiatus, Timberlake confirmed that sexy is not only back but it has matured a little bit. With a nod to Janelle Monáe’s futuristic funk, Justin’s big-band theatrics hinted a shift towards a more organic brand of R&B. Negligible camera-phone sound quality aside, the trio of new tracks indicate that JT’s The 20/20 Experience may be the most effective weapon in combating the declining birth rate in 2013.
