Julian Casablancas Goes Solo

Following the “branching out” phases of band mates Albert Hammond Jr, Nickolai Fraiture (Nickel Eye) and Fabrizio Moretti (Little Joy) Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas is set to release his debut solo album later this year on Cult Records/RCA.

In related news Strokes guitarist Nick Valensi has perfected the art of thumb twiddling. Just kidding Nick, but seriously if I wanted a solo album from any Stroke it would be you. Best put one out soon or face severe long term inadequacy issues.

In contrast Casablancas has kept himself busy by lending his distinctive drawl to everyone from Queens Of The Stone Age, Converse (with Santogold and Pharrell), Comedy act Lonely Island and most recently the Dark Night Of The Soul collaboration between Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse.

There aren’t many details concerning his solo project but Casablancas has posted an album teaser online while his Youtube channel reveals the following:

The album, entitled Phrazes for the Young, features all new material written by Casablancas. Track titles include: River of Brake Lights, Glass and Ludlow St. Casablancas, a founding member of The Strokes, plans to announce a special series of U.S. dates shortly to be followed by a solo tour later in the year
