New York City’s Gang Gang Dance are a fearless army of avant-garde musicians who regard the notion of “genre” as outdated and meaningless. And with tracks like “Princes” you can kind of see why.
The following live video for “Princes” (shot by Tim and Barry TV) off 2008’s “St. Dymphna” illustrates their disregard for useless labels by mashing English Grime MC Tynchy Stryder with their own brand of psychedelic atmospherics. The clip starts with the kind of sequenced wizardry you’d expect from Animal Collective, takes an abrupt left into a fidget bassline fueled Grime track then goes to the moon when the heavily effected vocals of Gang Gang Dance siren Liz Bougatsos kicks in.
