Friendly Fires – “Skeleton Boy”

In their new clip for “Skeleton Boy” UK three-piece Friendly Fires channel the kind of epic, anthemic pop that 16 year old girls swoon for.

With their abnormally high cheek bones and penchant for dreamy MBV-esque guitar fuzz it’s easy to dismiss “Friendly Fires” as yet another in the ever growing class of good-looking, dance friendly, but ultimately forgettable bands. Yes their influences are transparent (shoegaze, disco) but they tweak the formula just enough to craft something entirely new…almost.

Drummer Jack Savidge explains the making of the clip – a combination of pitch black studios, projectile polystyrene balls and skeleton suits:

We made this video for the song just before Christmas. As you can see, it involves us dressing up as nihilist street mimes and playing black instruments in a completely black studio. Millions of polystyrene balls flew around as if propelled by poltergiest, forcing their way into our mouths, ears, sinuses and navels. The little blighters were still emerging from our bodies some weeks after the shoot. Hope this doesn’t gross you out too much as you watch it.
