Seven years before she discovered electro pop/fringes and became the Gotye assisting Converse endorsee we know today, Kimbra was a little known singer-songwriter named Kimbra Johnson – a sixteen year old product of the nineties who dressed like PJ Harvey’s little sister and whose 2005 debut single, “Deep For You”, owed a significant musical debt to Sheryl Crow and Alanis Morissette. Also reflective of that decade is the track’s music video (below) which features a bead necklace + hoop earring combo, a sombre pulpit scene and endless supplies of crimson rose petals, THE visual motif of the mid to late nineties.
And this is why we love the internet.
