In March this year, spritely antipodean pop vision Kimbra was invited to perform alongside the extremely prolific and charismatic contemporary composer Van Dyke Parks (The Beach Boys, Ry Cooder, Joanna Newsom, Silverchair) and one of her pre-teen musical dreams Daniel Johns as part of the 2013 Adelaide Festival.
What follows is a short documentary lensed by one of Kimbra’s most fruitful, perfectly-matched collaborators (who isn’t Gotye): the equally-as-vivid photographer Thom Kerr, who captured the short-lived lead-up to the union of these three musical iconoclasts for one night of sweet, orchestral music beyond compare.
