Ex-Crystal Castle Alice Glass Opens Up On Surviving An Abusive Relationship

Since leaving Crystal Castles last year, singer Alice Glass has stayed largely out of the public eye, but this week, she returned with a new solo track, ‘Stillbirth’, and a powerful message about abusive relationships.
Glass initially shared the track on Soundcloud, noting that it is now available to buy on iTunes, with proceeds from the digital purchase going to benefit organisations that help survivors of domestic and sexual abuse and incest.
Along with the song, Glass shared a screenshot of a statement about her own experiences with abusive relationships, noting that “years ago”, she began the process of trying to remove herself from one that began when she was a teenager.
“Over the course of that relationship, I was systematically cut off from anyone and everyone that I could truly be close to,” she said, of the abuse that she endured behind her “fearless” facade.
“I was talked down to, yelled at, locked into rooms and criticised daily about my abilities, my weight, my looks, my intelligence and almost every move I made.”
She spoke about the cycle of abuse she suffered and urged people to understand that this kind of abuse can happen in unexpected places, and may be happening right in front of them.
“Although some of the pain and anger still lingers, my life finally feels as though it has value and meaning,” she continued. “I speak out now hoping that I can encourage other young women and young men to affirm their value within their relationships or get out.”
