The whole social networking scope is relatively uncharted, which means world records are going to be broken pretty much every day. The latest statistical record to be shattered falls at the hands of Eminem, who today surpassed Lady Gaga in becoming the first person to receive 30 million ‘likes’ on Facebook.
According to famecount.com, a social media statistics service, Eminem comes in second place overall (taking into account facebook, twitter and youtube combined), amidst a top 10 which includes President Obama, Katy Perry, Facebook itself, and the card game Texas Hold’em Poker – which has ironically been ‘unliked’ 30 million times by disgruntled gamblers.
What needs to be examined here is Em’s recent, and probably tactical, involvement with internet poster boy Justin Bieber. Between Lady Gaga and Bieber, tween mind control is pretty much nailed. It would make sense for artists like Eminem, Little Wayne, Chris Brown and Usher to align themselves with Bieber, whose fan base continues to multiply, while theirs begins its descent as they try and grasp onto the monkey bars of change.
Which begs the question: how many of Em’s facebook likes came from Beliebers?
Notable exclusions include Warnie with 43K, Kevin Rudd with 53K and the reality TV show Park Street with 0.
