Did Tumblr’s favourite boyband rip off Australia’s Clubfeet? That’s what the creators of the acclaimed video for Clubfeet’s “Everything You Wanted” are arguing. One Direction debuted the clip for new single “You & I” last week, and the last third sure bears some pretty striking similarities to the distinctive Clubfeet clip. View them both below:
Melbourne production studio Oh Yeah Wow, who created the clip (as well as the video for Gotye’s “Easy Way Out”), wrote a blog post calling attention to the alleged plagiarism:
“Considering the sleep deprivation one must endure to create an original piece with practically no budget, you can start to understand the annoyance we might feel when some affluent young bucks and a director devoid of creativity, decide to effectively steal (and subsequently dilute) our idea.”
They’re urging fans to tweet at One Direction and “You & I” director Ben Winston using the hashtag #nodirection. Should be fine, right? One Direction fans on Twitter are never rabidly defensive or anything, right?
