As umm…big a Summer institution as the Big Day Out is, the first announcement for 2009 is fairly lack-lustre…

When juxtaposed to the, as I like to call it, “Bogan’s Day Out” of yesteryear this lineup does seem a little weak. The collection of acts is remarkably similar to one you’d see at a “Splendour In The Grass” with a headlining elder statesman (ala Brian Wilson) and acts such as TV on the Radio and Arctic Monkeys acting as major draw cards. And though I love Neil Young, “Rage Against the Machine” he is not.

In my opinion, the best news to come from the first announcement is that The Prodigy will finally return to their spiritual home – the BDO Boiler Room. That’s about as Bogan’s Day Out as you can get. 40, 000 Bundy wielding drunkards slam dancing to “Smack My Bitch Up”. I can’t wait.

The lineup is as follows…

Neil Young
My Morning Jacket
TV On The Radio
Eddy Current Suppression Ring
The Living End
Cog
The Grates
Youth Group
Cut Copy
The Prodigy
Arctic Monkeys
The Ting Tings
Bullet For My Valentine
Pendulum
Simian Mobile Disco
Sneaky Sound System
TZU
