A Tribe Called Quest’s New Album To Ft. Kendrick Lamar, Jack White + More

Seminal US hip-hop outfit A Tribe Called Quest will be releasing their first new album in 18 fricken’ years next week, and have just announced the legit tasty list of collabs who will feature on it, via a lengthy interview with the NY Times.

‘We Got It From Here Thank You For Your Service’ is the name of the newy, the first full-length release since 1998 (!!!), and alongside all four core members of the group (Q-Tip, Jarobi White, Ali Shaheed Muhammad & Phife Dawg, who sadly passed away earlier this year in the midst of recording) will see input from the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Jack White, André 3000, Busta Rhymes and Elton John.
So, pretty much every cool person ever it seems.
In their chat with the NY Times, Q-Tip & White discuss the impact of Phife’s tragic departure due to diabetes related illness in March of this year, saying it was particularly tough finishing off the album.

“It’s so hard for me to sit in there and hear his voice. Sometimes I just have to like take a break and walk away. It gets heavy. It doesn’t necessarily get sad, it just gets heavy. I literally feel the energy from him when I hear his voice.”

The pair also touched on the fact that due to the intimate nature of their recording process, which required all contributors to be physically present in Q-Tip’s New Jersey studio, the constant travelling to and from for Phife may have expedited his illness.

“I had no idea that his days was numbered,” Q-Tip told the Times. “Doing this album killed him and he was very happy to go out like that.”

‘We Got It From Here, Thank You For Your Service’ is out November 11.
