Meryl Streep.
Big Little Lies, season 2.
Goddamn.
Meryl Streep, undefeated ruler of the stage and screen, has officially joined the cast of Big Little Lies‘ second season.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news, saying the eternally lauded actor will portray Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Alexander Skarsgard‘s reprehensible Perry Wright.
Her character will reportedly arrive in beachside Monterey to investigate the circumstances of his death, and will bring some serious concern for the wellbeing of his children. We’ll see how Nicole Kidman’s Celeste Wright handles that.
Streep is only the third actor confirmed to return to the project after Kidman and Reese Witherspoon, but it seems unlikely the show’s other massive names would be reluctant to return.
FWIW, Skarsgard is also set to return to the show in some way, shape or form.
Showrunner David E. Kelley has been confirmed to return for the show’s second outing. He has reportedly written all seven episodes, which will expand the source text of the original Liane Moriarty novel.
The massive casting news comes after the drama’s awards show domination. Big Little Lies earned itself eight Emmys, four Golden Globes, and has proven a massive hit with critics and audiences alike.
Hell, we named it one of the best shows of 2017, too. Expect to see it on out 2019 list, too.
