You Can Cop Edgy Performance Art W/ A Side Of Osher At Bleach* 2019

It’s kind of the dream, right? All your fave music, theatre and comedy artists performing sets just for you in the comfort of your very own backyard. And honestly, whether that ‘backyard’ is your literal dodgy overgrown mess of weeds or a more metaphorical understanding of Australia, we’d be down for it.

So it’s pretty bloody good that Bleach* is hitting the Gold Coast reaaaaally soon then. From the 17th to the 28th of April, festival pop-ups will be emerging all over the city (and yes, even in a couple of literal backyards).

The hectic festival of all things art, music, culture and comedy is going to take the sunny city by storm, with performances across all major venues and yes, even some sneaky backyard gigs to have you bounding around.

this cuteness could be you

Plus if there’s one thing that we are absolutely obsessed with, it’s a good beach party. The central hub this year for the festival is at Burleigh Bleach* Club and it’s gonna be a hectic party with bars along the beach and a bunch of sick installations and performance art.

We’re talking everything from Tectonic (a contemporary dance performance that’ll make use of 180 fit balls casually buried under the sand like trampolines) to The Cleaners (a massively lauded performance piece packed with fights and existential crises – all performed seven metres above the ground).

Frankly, we are all for it. The opportunity to check all these while having a bev on the beach? Yes pls. And there’s still stacks of other stuff nestled around the city – there’s a dance-off street exhibit Between Tiny Cities in a laneway in Southport, and a thriller drive-in experience called Throttle at Mudgeeraba Showgrounds, so you’re set wherever you are.

Personally I’m already keen for Terror Australis (a gritty, urban, blood-spattered extravaganza that tells of Australia’s edgy side through cabaret) because frankly anything that involves pulpy grindhouse burlesque sounds like a Good Time.

Then we have music. Ah, the tunes. If you’re keen for a bit of a boogie, Bleach* has you sorted. You’ll be checking out acts like MontaigneEliza & The Delusionals, and (for the more operatically inclined) even the Queensland Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra.

And let’s not forget that everyone’s fave rose-bearing angel, Osher Günsberg, will also be making an appearance at the Spiegeltent – so really, that’s incentive enough for me.

yep, I’m sold

But seriously, it’s a hectic festival and you’re defs gonna wanna have a peep. Besides, any excuse to have a peek in someone else’s backyard is a-okay with us. We’re all inquisitive little stickybeaks here, don’t deny it.

Check out the acts and timings HERE – you know you wanna.
