The Wicked movie has been on the drawing board for a while now but for whatever reason, the film has been taking its sweet, sweet time. So far, per Deadlinewe’ve got a director in Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot) and Marc Platt (La La Land) so it’s looking good. Winnie Holzman, who adapted the Gregory Maguire novel into the musical, and Oscar-winning composer Stephen Schwartz will also work on the film’s screenplay.

Wicked is the untold story of the witches of Oz way before Dorothy popped into the story. The musical tells the tale of an unlikely friendship between two girls and how they became the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.

The film adaptation was actually supposed to come out at the end of this year but, according to DeadlineCats took that release date instead.

Cats – from Andrew Lloyd Webber – is based on T.S. Eliot‘s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats. You have a group of cats called the Jellicles and you have an extremely important night known as the Jellicle Choice. Each year on this important night, the wise leader Deuteronomy decides which cat goes to the Heaviside Layer to be reborn.

Traditionally, Deuteronomy is a male character but Dame Judi Dench will take on the role instead.

Joining her is Jennifer Hudson, Sir Ian McKellen, Idris Elba, Taylor Swift, James Corden, Jason Derulo, and our very own Rebel Wilson.

The King’s Speech director Tom Hooper helms the film while Lee Hall, the screenwriter of Billy Elliot, adapted the musical.

The film is currently in production with a couple of the stars sharing some piccies from set.
