Greta Gerwig is fast becoming exactly what I imagine the love child of Woody Allen and Carrie Bradshaw would be like – and I mean that in the best possible way. In the next big indie rom-com, Lola Versus, Gerwig plays the titular character, a 29-year-old woman dumped by her longtime boyfriend three weeks short of their wedding, who (according to the official synopsis) with the help of her close friends, embarks on a series of desperate encounters in an attempt to find her place in the world as a single woman approaching thirty!
Yes! Anxiety! Neuroses! Sex! New York! Shoes! It’s like 500 Days of Summer (it’s from the same studio Fox Searchlight) meets Annie Hall (or Manhattan) with the best bit(s) from Sex & The City. Lola Versus co-stars Joel Kinnaman (The Killing), Hamish Linklater (The Future) and Zoe Lister-Jones (Bored to Death, Salt) and some genuinely funny dialogue. I’ve already adopted the phrase “LetMeBeYourHole1” and “power eating” and successfully incorporated both into my vocabulary.
