Trailer: Keira Knightley Is A Worthy Anna Karenina

You’d think playing fiction’s most iconic characters would be an intimidating task but Keira Knightley is clearly game for the challenge (Pride & Prejudice‘s beloved heroine Lizzy Bennett, for example). Her latest performance as the tragic title character of Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina will be heavily scrutinised by literary purists but, based on the sumptuous first trailer (below), the beautiful and anguished Knightley seems a brilliant choice for the love-torn Russian aristocrat.

In Anna Karenina the actress reteams with her Atonement and Pride & Prejudice director Joe Wright, and will be supported by British costars Jude Law, Aaron Johnson (wearing an outrageous prosthetic moustache), and Boardwalk Empire‘s Kelly MacDonald.

The film is due out November 9, a timely launch date for any movie pushing for serious Oscar consideration…
