The September Issue Aus Premiere

The September Issue, the doco that exposes the inner workings of US Vogue, premiered in Sydney last night. Despite the 100m long queue and †fashionably’ late start (which actually caused a handful of people to unceremoniously ‘boo’ the Sydney Film Festival Director – was that really necessary?) The film lived up to the hype and proved to be not only an insight into the work and mind of Anna Wintour but also a study of her relationship with Vogue Creative Director Grace Coddington a formidable partnership of more than 20 years.

To keep things simple we’ve decided to jump straight to the moral of the story. Here’s what we learnt from The September Issue (Spoiler Alert):

– Vogue’s influence is so pervasive that they successfully lobbied Prada to change the materials of several items in their collection before they went into production in 2007 to be more retailer friendly

– Everyone thinks that cover girl Sienna Miller’s hair was a mess and unworkable (probably the same words that’re now attached to her reputation and career)

– Anna Wintour calls Mario Testino, ‘Tino’

– When Anna graduated high school her father told her to write as her future profession ‘Vogue magazine editor’

– Anna’s brother is political editor of the Guardian newspaper.

– Anna doesn’t think that rubber is a texture

– Anna’s daughter thinks that people who take fashion too seriously are ‘silly.’ Her daughter wants to be a lawyer.

– Anna calls her children her biggest weakness
