SOYA WINNERS INCLUDING MY D ISCO AND ANT!PODiUM

It’s not often that I’ll type the words disco and cancer into the same search engine, but that’s exactly what I find myself doing…

In a vain attempt to find My Disco performing the contender for most acerbically titled track of the year “You Came To Me Like A Cancer Lain Dormant Until It Blossomed Like A Rose” the divergent “disco” and “cancer” sit side by side in my search engine. Isn’t it great that a band this weird won a SOYA award?

The fashion winner Geoffrey J. Finch of London favourite ANT!PODiUM probably has more international relevance/stockists than mentor Peter Morrissey (who couldn’t pronounce the names of the nominees and promised to mentor all three regardless of the outcome) but maintained there was much about fashion business he could learn from Morrissey. I would of thought the award (hence money) would go to the much less established Dion Lee or Reiss Radvanyi instead, but the win was certainly well deserved. ANT!PODiUM’s collections are consistently inspiring.

With $10,000 in cash and flights going to all winners, the SOYA awards are a great initiative and something that young Australian creatives don’t see enough of. Good on you QANTAS and congratulations to all the winners…
