Pussy Riot Are Comin’ To Aus For The Huge Dark MOFO Fest

What can be assumed as Putin‘s absolute favourite-ever feminist punk band, Pussy Riot, have been added to the annual Dark MOFO winter solstice festival in Tasmania
Two of the women from the notorious protest group will be headed to Hobart for a screening of the newest Pussy Riot documentary, ‘Act & Punishment’, a Q&A sesh, and a DJ set, as announced this morning by the festival.
Maria Vladimirovna ‘Masha’ Alyokhina (one of the Pussy Riot members thrown in jail in 2012 for ‘hooliganism’) and Alexandra Lukyanova (aka Sasha Bogino) will be joined by their producer, Alexander Cheparukhin for the screening and Q&A, and yep you can submit questions for the panel to answer
The doco is all about the formation of Pussy Riot in 2011, and how they’ve managed to pull the issues of feminism and LGBT rights into the spotlight in Russia.
Check out the trailer below.

Once a year, Tassie becomes home to some of the darkest, most mysterious art and performances, turning the water-locked state into a hub of strange culture and modern art. Dark MOFO is in the thick of June, and serves as the nocturnal, weird younger sibling of the summer months’ MONA FOMA (MOFO for short).

The rest of the second announcement looks pretty freakin’ sweet too, with Nai Palm from Haitus Kaiyote, the lineup for the annual Welcome Stranger art party, a big talk with the very controversial Austrian artist Hermann Nitsch and Xiu Xiu Plays the Music of Twin Peaks locked in for a second show.
Here’s Masha from Pussy Riot dropping the announcement in a most beautiful thick accent.
So if being in the Tassie in the middle of winter for ridic. art and music is your thing, then hop on over to their site to grab tix, folks.
