A resourceful – and though it probably doesn’t need saying, very lucky – teenager has survived an 80 metre plunge from a cliff, while trying to sneak into a music festival in New South Wales.
The 17-year-old was camping with a group of friends in Watagan State Forest when they came across a bush doof called Solstium Shadows, a three day-dance event to celebrate the winter solstice.
Refusing to be deterred, the youngster and his friends tried to sneak in at night. With only a cigarette lighter for illumination, they worked their way around a cliffside, but disaster struck, when the boy stumbled and fell.
His friends described hearing a “splash”, which was likely the sound of the tree canopy breaking his fall. Emergency crews were called in, and with the use of abseiling equipment, the boy was found alive just after 4.15am.

Following a delicate rescue operation that involved helicopters and cutting a hole in the treetops, the teen was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital for treatment, where he remains in serious condition.
Years from now, the boy will have an awesome story to tell at his 21st, while emergency services workers will still be shaking their heads in disappointment.
