What is art?
The advent of Conceptual Art as a legitimate art form has broken the definition for what constitutes a “work of art” and smashed it to pieces. In the current Modern Art climate if you were to take a video recording of someone shitting on a carpet with the world “ME” painted on it, you have potentially created an existentialist masterpiece commenting on the futility of urban life. Alternatively perhaps you could make some kind of giant edible mosaic to resemble a celebrity’s ass some might interpret that to be a reflection of society’s misguided consumption of celebrity.
English artist Laura Hadland might have been attempting to make such a statement with her recreation of Pippa Middleton‘s ass and face – made from 15,000 crumpets. Or maybe she’s just cashing in on the thousands upon thousands of people who want to lick Pippa Middleton’s bum. Good thinking Laura.
