Peter Jackson Unveils Trailer For “Lovely Bones”

Peter Jackson’s “Lovely Bones” based on the 2002 Alice Sebold novel of the same name follows Susie Salmon – a 14 year old girl from suburban Philadelphia who is brutally murdered by her neighbour. Following the murder Susie watches over her grief-stricken family and killer from her own personal purgatory.

Considering Peter Jackson’s track record, it comes as no surprise that the trailer’s cinematography is breathtaking. Jackson’s mastery of aesthetically pleasing and emotionally resonant visuals is particularly prominent when the macabre “scene of the crime” is juxtaposed to Susie’s fantastical limbo. Judging from the trailer we’re thinking Pan’s Labyrinth’s fantasy side plot, Mystic River’s Father as vigilante vibe and the loss of innocence in Jackson’s own Heavenly Creatures. Oscar bait if I’ve ever seen it. F-Yeah!

“Lovely Bones” stars Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon and a creepy as all hell Stanley Tucci and hits theaters December 11, 2009.
