Oprah Draws Bigger Crowd Than Wikileaks Rally

Earlier this afternoon I went to the ‘Freedom Of Information’ rally in support of Wikileaks outside Sydney’s Town Hall. Several events were held around the country – and world – today to raise awareness for the cause in a show of solidarity, with public access to information and support for Wikileak’s founder Julian Assange – who’s currently fighting extradition to Sweden – the major issues on the agenda. Elsewhere, hordes of Oprah Winfrey fans flocked to Melbourne’s Federation Square to catch a glimpse of the Queen of daytime television. She is scheduled to appear on stage at 4.30 this afternoon and will be joined by Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu. Based on reports from ABC News Oprah supporters are more proactive than Wikileaks supporters.

Hundreds of supporters for Wikileaks, thousands for Oprah.

I have to admit I was kinda surprised at the fairly meager turn out of young people at the rally. Most of the people there were seasoned protesters, Sex Party representatives, and socialists. And that is the honest truth.
