Natalie Portman Teaches Us About Film

I’ve always imagined that a “best boy” was the teenager with the most dexterous hands at a Thai massage parlour, a drastically erroneous assumption as it has nothing at all to do with film. Thanks to Natalie Portman however, I’ve since learned that best boys are the assistants to the key grip or gaffer on a film set – now I only have to work out what exactly a key grip and gaffer do.

Appropriately titled MakingOf Natalie Portman has launched a website which aims to provide “a behind-the-scenes Web portal that provides an intimate, fresh look into the process of making a movie by the insiders themselves. MakingOf’s mission is to champion the art and craft of entertainment creation.” It’s an insightful peek into the art of film making with Portman utilizing her radiantly beguiling smile star power to attract some big names to the site.

Check out some of the interviews below featuring Portman herself, Director Michel Gondry and RJ Cutler the Director who followed Anna Wintour for the making of one issue of Vogue.
