Michael Sheen Is Quitting Acting To Fight “Demagogic, Fascist” Politics

With his series Masters Of Sex now done and dusted, Welsh actor Michael Sheen has made the surprise announcement that he’ll be quitting acting “for the time being” to pursue a fight against far-right “fascist” politics.
Feeling rattled by the rise of Donald Trump, Sheen told the Times Of London that he’ll be returning to his home town of Port Talbot – which voted yes in the recent Brexit poll – to get involved in grassroots organising.
He told the Times that he is genuinely concerned by the increasing support for “demagogic, fascist” politics, adding:

“In the same way as the Nazis had to be stopped in Germany in the ’30s, this thing that is on the rise has to be stopped … It’s not going to look like this in 10 years’ time. Everything has shifted. The dice are being rolled again.”
While he acknowledges that putting a successful career on hold is a big step, Sheen told the Times that he’s cutting ties with Hollywood for the greater good, saying:

“It will be a big change for how people relate to me. Once I’m in, I’m fully in, and this is big. As soon as you start to be effective, then people try to crush you, because it’s dangerous.”
We wish him all the best.
