Jared Leto, Will Smith, Tom Hardy, Cara Delevingne and Australians Jai Courtney and Margot Robbie have this morning been confirmed as the members of Warner Bros. and DC Comic’s Suicide Squad: a coterie of Tens who will comprise the cast of a film of the same name that promises to do for sexy villainy what The Avengers did for smarmy patriotism.
Per Variety, Suicide Squad takes its narrative cues from “a team of supervillains who are given a chance at redemption by the government. The catch: Their mission will probably kill them all.”
Balayage Jesus, Jared Leto, will take on the role of The Joker; Will Smith will play Deadshot; Tom Hardy has been cast as Rick Flagg; Delevingne will play Enchantress and, confirming previous reports, Robbie will star was Harley Quinn. Jessie Eisenberg is reportedly still in negotiations to carry over his role as Lex Luthor from Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice to Suicide Squad.
Packed To The Rafters alumni Jai Courtney, meanwhile, will play Boomerang. That only seems apt.
Directed by David Ayer (Fury), Suicide Squad will open August 5th, 2016.
