Mark Wahlberg To Donate His $1.5M Reshoot Money In Michelle Williams’ Name

After facing a backlash for the major discrepancy between his and Michelle Williams‘ salaries for reshooting scenes in All The Money In The World, actor Mark Wahlberg has announced that he will donate his $1.5 million fee to a legal defense fund for victims of sexual harassment.

Williams received $1000 for her work on the reshoots, less than one percent of what her co-star earned, and it later emerged that Wahlberg had leveraged his payday by exploiting a clause in his contract that gave him approval over the casting of his co-stars in the film.

When Christopher Plummer took over the role that had been played by Kevin Spacey, Wahlberg reportedly drafted a letter to the movie’s financiers, formally vetoing the introduction of a new actor until his demands for additional payment were met.

In a statement released via the William Morris Endeavor agency,  a contrite Wahlberg announced that he would be donating his earnings, saying:

“Over the last few days my reshoot fee for All the Money in the World has become an important topic of conversation. I 100% support the fight for fair pay and I’m donating the $1.5 million to the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund in Michelle Williams’ name.”

The agency, which also represents Williams, said that it too would be donating additional money to the cause:

“The current conversation is a reminder that those of us in a position of influence have a responsibility to challenge inequities, including the gender wage gap. In recognition of the pay discrepancy on All the Money in the World reshoots, WME is donating an additional $500,000 to the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund in Michelle Williams’ name, following our $1 million pledge to the organization earlier this month. It’s crucial that this conversation continues within our community and we are committed to being part of the solution.”
