Joel Edgerton And Newcomer Elizabeth Debicki Join ‘Gatsby’ Cast

There is no denying that Baz Luhrmann is a man who is openly proud to be Australian (see: Australia) and he isn’t afraid to show us off to the world. Case in point, two more Australian actors have been cast in his forthcoming adaptation of F.Scott Fitzgerald’s Jazz Age classic The Great Gatsby.

It has been confirmed that Joel Edgerton will now play Tom Buchanan (the role that Ben Affleck was originally tipped for) and newcomer Melbourne actress Elizabeth Debicki who will play the beautiful but tortured golf pro Jordan Baker. They will star alongside fellow Aussie Isla Fisher who is already set to play Myrtle as well as a stunning lineup of non-Australian talent including Leonardo DiCaprio as Gatsby, Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway and Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan.

We almost forgot to mention the other Australian star of the film: the city of Sydney where the movie is being filmed.

The Great Gatsby is set to be released in 2012.
