J.K. Rowling Confirms That Film #2 Will Get Into Newt’s Ex Leta Lestrange

The ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them‘ sequel might be years off, but J.K. Rowling is dropping mad hints all over the place about what’ll go down.

The latest concerns Newt Scamander‘s mysterious love interest Leta Lestrange (the surname connections we surely don’t have to explain to you).

In the first film, we merely glimpse her (played by Zoë Kravitz) in a photograph inside Newt’s workshop, and one of the more touching moments involves Queenie, a Legilimens, reading Newt’s mind and sensing that their friendship at school was a dysfunctional one.

“She was a taker,” she says to Newt. “You need a giver.”

Rowling has now confirmed that Leta Lestrange will 100% be in the next movie, which we already know will be set largely in Paris (and London!), will still feature Newt as lead character, and includes a lot more Gellert Grindlewald, unfortunately still being played by Johnny Depp.

Director David Yates recently dropped a few hints about Leta during a round table interview with Cinema Blend.

“Leta Lestrange comes into the second movie,” he said. “She’s quite complicated and damaged and confused and Newt is absolutely still in love with her, so she has a kind of power over him, and she, yeah, she’s a kind of tragic figure, so we will see a bit more of her in the second movie.”

[SPOILERS]

Confusingly enough, one of the four characters IMDb has listed as appearing in the next film is Credence Barebone (Ezra Miller), who exploded into a black nothing at the end of the last film and presumably died.

So maybe…. he didn’t?

Don’t worry guys, I’m on it.
