The Wallabies recently took on Argentine rugby team the Pumas in Mendoza, but the real entertainment went down before the game, when singer Marcelo Zelada tried and spectacularly failed to get his head around the lyrics to our national anthem, and instead made up a series of random words.
Now, true, when it comes to ‘Advance Australia Fair’, most people here can’t get much further than the first verse, but regardless, anyone tell you that the first line is probably not “Australians all let us rejoice, for we are limousines.” You can watch the whole thing in all its awkward glory here:
Credit where credit’s due – correct lyrics or not, Zelada gave a hell of a performance, ending on a powerful crescendo. He nonetheless failed to inspire the Wallabies, who went on to lose the game 21-17.
