The announcement came with a new look for our main protagonist Motoko Kusanagi – new but as sick as ever. It’s still extremely early days but so far, we know the new anime is coming from the genius minds of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex director Kenji Kamiyama and director Shinji Aramaki whose credits include the Appleseed franchise and Evangelion.

In other words, two bloody huge names in the business. The pair are also behind another of the streaming giant’s new anime series, Ultraman coming to a telly near you in April 2019.

But that’s not all because OG studio Production I.G. will return to animate.

For now, it’s not yet known if the anime will be a series or film but either (or both) will still be very much appreciated.

Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 will premiere on Netflix in 2020.

Here’s hoping Yoko Kanno will compose the music.

Speaking of which, goddamn Neon Genesis Evangelion is hitting Netflix in 2019 so prepare for some angst.

In the other corner, there’s also Neo Yokio: Pink Christmas which is up on Netflix, right nowThis here comes from Vampire Weekend‘s Ezra Koenig and you will either hate it or love it – there is no in-between. There are only six episodes in season one plus the Chrissie special so it’s easy bingeing material.
