‘Game Of Thrones’ Director Pours Cold Water Over A Major Tyrion Theory

The director behind the mega Game of Thrones finale has poured ice cold water over a fan theory about Tyrion’s concerned look as his Queen and her nephew finally cut the shit on their longing glances and hooked up.

*’Sound of Silence’ softly plays*

Tyrion’s lurking outside the bedroom door, which we can all agree was weird, had fans divided. Some thought he was concerned for Daenerys. Some thought he was in love with her. And one theory that’s gained plenty of traction reckons it was because he’d already betrayed Dany to Cersei.

But finale director Jeremy Podeswa has laid the ‘love’ theory to rest, telling the Daily Beast that he thinks the longing look was more some straight-up jealousy, but not necessarily *romantic* jealousy.

“Well I think there’s jealousy, but it’s maybe not romantic jealousy, in the way that it is for Jorah, for example. I think that for Tyrion, it’s more complicated. I think he has a very special relationship with Dany and he really believes in her as a true leader and has invested a lot in her. I think for him, with Jon and Dany getting together, this represents a possible undermining of his position with her and also a monkey wrench thrown into what the master plan really is meant to be around this entire alliance.

The way I see it is Tyrion is a bit of a strategist—not just a bit of a strategist, he is a major strategist—and I think now, he can’t see where this is gonna go and that’s very difficult for someone who is always thinking three steps ahead. The consequences of Dany and Jon getting together are completely unknown. Is she gonna make decisions now based on this new relationship? Is she gonna be able to separate her personal [interests] from the interests of the greater group? What is this going to foretell for the alliance and what they’re all meant to do as a united front?

So I think the worry for him is that now, everything is up for grabs. We don’t really know who’s going to side with who, what’s gonna happen at the end of the day, and which alliances are going to be the strongest.”

Tyrion has been losing his influence over Dany more and more as this season progressed. He might have bragged to Cersei that, as Hand of the Queen, he keeps Dany’s wilder impulses in check, but we haven’t actually seen that happen in quite some time.

You know whose advise Dany is following? Old mate bedroom eyes over here.

Quick reminder about what happened at the last council meeting:

Tyrion: I think it’s safer for you to fly to Winterfell.
Jon: Sail with me.
Missendei:
Varys:
Dany: Yep I’ll sail.

And we know where that led: some cheeky onboard incesteroony.

Of course, none of this *actually* says Tyrion hasn’t betrayed his queen. IMO, we’re not in the clear just yet.

And as for Jon and Dany riding (dragons) off into the sunset together…. when has a couple ever had a happy ending on Game of Thrones?
