DON’T GET MAD: That ‘First Wives Club’ TV Series Reboot Is Going Ahead

Ah, reboots. Sometimes we’re here for them (Heathers, Sabrina The Teenage Witch) and sometimes it’s like mate, can you just leave iconic movies/tv shows alone?

We’re in two minds over this one, for example – the 90’s dreamboat of a movie, First Wives Club, is being rebooted as a TV series – and it looks like it’s legit going ahead.

The 30 minute comedy series has been given a pilot order from Paramount NetworkVariety confirmed today.

The series will be written by Tracy Oliver, who co-wrote the screenplay for comedy film Girls Trip. For those who aren’t familiar with the 1996 film (are you serious, leave work now and go watch it – it’s the bloody BEST), it follows three New York women who became firm friends in college, only to lose touch over the years.

When one of their friends dies by suicide after her marriage falls apart, they reconnect and learn that all of their husbands are total dickwads. They vow to get revenge and it’s the fucking best revenge ever.

Oh, and the film’s stars? A triple-whammy of Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton. And Sarah Jessica Parker in a smaller, but hilarious, side role.

The new series is already slated to star Buffy/How I Met Your Mother alum Alyson Hannigan, Vanessa Lachey and Megan Hilty – but please lord if this reboot goes ahead, let the OG iconic ladies be on board in some capacity.

Anyway – it’s primo content for a comedy series for sure. But will it have the perfect white power-suits? That is the question.
