Coming Soon: Red Dog The Musical, TV Show And Documentary

This just in: we’ve got a fever and the only prescription is more Red Dog. After racking up impressive 2011 box office numbers ($21.3 million to be exact), an Archibald Prize portrait by Adam Cullen and this year’s inaugural Best Film gong at the AACTA Awards, Red Dog continues to prolong its cultural relevance with expansions now planned for the stage and small screen.

According to the film’s producer, Nelson Woss, talks are underway to turn the film into the stage production, documentary and TV show that none of us ever asked for. “What’s quite nice about Red Dog now is that it’s expanding into other areas,” Woss told The Sunday Times. The filmmaker said that he was talking to a “major well-known producer” and that a stage production surrounding the canine icon would be based on the film’s soundtrack. “The musical could premiere in Perth as early as next year,” he said.

It is not yet known whether award winning Kelpie, Koko, will reprise his role for the project as he hasn’t returned our calls and is probably too busy getting drunk/shining trophies in his pimp ass dog mansion.
