Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Copped Some Boos For Defending The ‘Thrones’ Ending

Comic Con

Various stars of Game Of Thrones gathered for what may very well be the show’s last ever Comic Con panel over the weekend, and certain audience members were more than happy to let the cast know their thoughts on the final season.

One element that annoyed some fans was the handling of Jaime and Cersei Lannister‘s story lines, and the somewhat anti-climactic death that the twins suffered, crushed under falling rubble while clutched in each-other’s arms.

When asked about his character’s demise, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau had nothing but positive things to say, telling the Comic Con audience “I thought it was a great ending, I thought it was perfect for that character to end in the arms of Cersei … it made sense to me.”

His comments were met with several scattered boos from the crowd, leading the panel and the rest of the room the break out laughing. “There’s always one,” said one of Coster-Waldau’s cast-mates. You can see the scene play out below:

Lena Headey, who was not present for the panel, earlier said that she felt Cersei deserved “a better death” than the one she was given by the show.

Conleth Hill, who portrayed Varys on the show, bristled at the idea of a Thrones backlash, calling the response to the final season a “media-led hate campaign.”

“You look at the amount of people who are here. We are here to thank you for watching us all those years,” he told the crowd. “This is the reality.”
