Celebrity Splash Is Happening

Australian programming executives will continue to put their faith in the reality television of The Netherlands (see: Big Brother, The Voice) and test the limits of what we’ll watch celebrities do on television with Seven confirming a local version of Dutch reality diving show, Celebrity Splash. Screening sometime in 2013, the show will follow an assortment of Australian D-Graders/people with things to promote as they “perform complicated dives from varying heights with the assistance of professional diving instructors,” with Olympic gold medalist Matthew Mitcham reportedly in talks for the mentor role.

The network, which announced the news at their annual upfront presentations in Sydney last night, also confirmed the existence of The Mole – Culture Clash, a reboot of the most paranoid show on television featuring a pointedly diverse contestant base and some kind of secret social experiment element. House Rules, the only other notable addition to next year’s programming schedule, will be a Block-style renovation show from the makers of My Kitchen Rules.

Shows returning in 2013 include Packed to the Rafters, Revenge, Downton Abbey, The X-Factor Australia and Australia’s Got Talent.
